  • A repeatable quality gate before publishing listings.

Guide

Why catalogue hygiene matters

Most sync failures start with dirty identifiers. Duplicate SKUs and barcodes make allocation logic unpredictable, cause listing mismatches, and hide stock truth.

Checklist workflow

  1. Export all active SKUs and barcodes from each channel.
  2. Identify duplicates and conflicting owners.
  3. Assign a canonical SKU + barcode per sellable unit.
  4. Update mapping records and retire aliases.
  5. Validate listing links and rerun sync checks.

Verification before go-live

  • Confirm every active listing maps to exactly one canonical SKU.
  • Ensure barcode length and format are consistent.
  • Check no retired aliases remain in feed exports.
  • Run a stock change simulation and verify channel updates.

After clean-up: lock in SKU quality with SKU policy

Once cleanup is complete, add guardrails so SKU drift does not return.

  • Go to Settings → Inventory → SKU policy (/settings/inventory).
  • Start with Warn mode to surface mismatches without blocking saves.
  • Move to Block mode when your catalogue is stable.
  • Use stock-group overrides where channels need a different pattern.
  • Review your pattern settings quarterly, or before adding a new channel.

See the SKU policy guide for setup detail.

Team ownership model

  • Ops: drives the weekly cleanup cycle.
  • Catalogue team: approves canonical naming.
  • Channel managers: verify listing mappings after import.
