Bin types

Standardise bin labelling and behaviour so storage stays consistent.

Last updated:

Use Inventory → Bin types to standardise how bins are labelled and how they behave. Defining a small set of bin types keeps storage consistent as the warehouse grows, so every bin of a given type follows the same rules.

Columns

  • Type: the bin type name
  • Sort: the ordering used when bin types are listed
  • Updated: when the type was last changed
  • Status: whether the type is active

Actions

  • Create bin type: add a new bin type

Bin type detail

Bin type detail captures:

  • Type label: the user-facing name, such as Pick face, Reserve, Staging, or Quarantine.
  • Type code: optional short code for consistent labelling.
  • Sort order: lower values appear earlier in lists.
  • Description: optional explanation of how this bin type should be used.
  • Status: inactive bin types stay visible where already used, but should not be selected for new bins.

Keep the list small. Too many bin types makes floor work harder to teach and harder to audit.

  • Pick face: primary picking location.
  • Reserve: overflow or bulk storage.
  • Staging: temporary receiving or dispatch area.
  • Quarantine: stock awaiting review.

Record change history

Bin type detail includes a collapsed Record change history card. It lists event-log-backed changes for the bin type record, separate from the bins that use that type.
