Bins

Define storage positions within locations for scan-first warehouse work.

Last updated:

Use Inventory → Bins to define storage positions within your locations. Bins are the specific places stock sits in — shelves, totes, or pallet spots — and they are what warehouse staff scan during receiving, putaway, and picking.

Columns

  • Bin: the bin label or barcode
  • Type: the bin type that sets its behaviour (see Bin types)
  • Location: the location the bin belongs to
  • Updated: when the bin was last changed

Actions

  • Create bin: add a new storage position

Bin detail

Bin detail captures:

  • Location: the warehouse or fulfilment site that owns the bin.
  • Bin code: the label or barcode users scan on the floor.
  • Bin type: a standard type such as pick face, reserve, quarantine, or staging, depending on how your warehouse is organised.
  • Custom type: a quick label when a standard type has not yet been created.

Use short, scannable bin codes that match physical labels. Bin codes are capped at 10 characters. If staff will scan bins on mobile, keep codes readable on printed labels and avoid ambiguous characters where possible.

Where bins are used

  • Stock item primary and reserve bin defaults
  • Receiving and putaway
  • Bin-to-bin moves and replenishment
  • Counts, adjustments, returns, and quarantine
  • Pick-path and warehouse issue reporting

Record change history

Bin detail includes a collapsed Record change history card. It lists event-log-backed changes for the bin record, separate from Warehouse movement history and stock-balance activity.
